Coast to coast. East to west. In the summer of 2017, Canada's 150th birthday, Gail set out with a very good friend, also a Canadian expat, to fulfill a lifelong dream of driving across the land where she was born. Starting at the eastern-most point of North America, they dropped the top on the aging convertible and headed west in search of Canadian experience, identity, culture, landscape, music and moose. Three weeks, ten provinces and 7,800 kilometers later they pulled up to the (ironically labeled and mysteriously duplicated) Mile Zero in Victoria, British Columbia. Rumble Strip Canada 150 is the story of this eye-opening, life-affirming, joyous, and sometimes silly adventure. Published July 1, 2018.
A pressing desire to know what’s beyond the next horizon.
A yearning to see something other than one’s own backyard.
Writer Gail Hulnick has a weakness for the good old-fashioned road trip. Oh, she enjoys 75 mph on the Interstate, but her favorite road is the winding two-lane through the mountains, the seldom-used strip of asphalt that connects the small towns or the old desert highway that gets you there slowly. Rumble Strip USA Off the Interstate invites you into the passenger seat for travel stories and photos from side road journeys in 25 states including the view from the top of a Vermont mountain, the nostalgia of vintage gas stations and motels along Arizona’s Route 66 and the rhythm of a twisting byway through Washington. The second of the Rumble Strip books, this travel memoir launches March 20, 2019 ... the first day of spring.

In the spring of 2019, when travelers could cross borders with ease and did not have to fear a global pandemic, Gail Hulnick planned a road trip that zoomed from the canals of Brussels and Bruges to the castles and bridges of Luxembourg. With her driver/ husband, who gets the nickname “the Zig” for the purposes of this series, she explored the three countries that make up the region known as Benelux: Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The return trip to the U.S. was on board the Queen Mary 2, across the north Atlantic. Come along for the ride!
